This is the 'DASA (Non-SAARC)' tuition-fee component of the Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) scheme, run by India's Ministry of Education for Foreign Nationals, OCI/PIO cardholders and NRIs; IIEST Shibpur, an Institute of National Importance, is the scheme's coordinating institute and administers DASA seats here on the same terms as the participating NITs. Charged per semester (two semesters/year) - roughly USD 8,000/year before the institute fee below. Nationals of SAARC countries (except India) who passed their qualifying exam in a SAARC country pay a 50% reduced 'DASA (SAARC)' rate of USD 2,000/semester instead. On top of this DASA tuition component, IIEST separately charges an Institute Fee in Indian Rupees at the time of first-semester admission - about Rs 34,100 for a day scholar or Rs 72,800 for a hosteller (the hostel figure includes a refundable caution deposit and a mess advance); this Institute Fee is billed in INR, not USD, and is a per-institute charge rather than part of the DASA tuition. A distinct, lower 'DASA-CIWG' category exists for NRI students whose parent(s) work in the Gulf (UAE, Bahrain, Iraq, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar or Saudi Arabia); they instead pay the same fee as domestic Indian students (about Rs 96,600 without hostel / Rs 1,35,300 with hostel, no separate USD component).
