Scholarships

Airfare to Japan, tuition at the placement university, and a monthly stipend for living costs, for the full scholarship period (typically 5 years: a 1-year intensive Japanese-language year plus a 4-year undergraduate degree; 6 years for medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine or 6-year pharmacy courses). Applicants who can already study in Japanese may opt out of the language year.

Open to high school seniors and recent graduates applying to earn an undergraduate degree at a Japanese university, in any major. Applications are made through a Japanese embassy or consulate (Embassy Recommendation route) or through a Japanese university (University Recommendation route) — this record covers the Embassy Recommendation route as published by the Japanese Embassy in the United States; exact eligibility and deadlines are set annually and vary by the applicant's home country embassy.

Placement university and whether it teaches in English is decided during the scholarship process, not chosen freely by the applicant — most placements involve at least some study in Japanese. Country-specific deadlines and quotas are set by each Japanese embassy; check the embassy or consulate serving your country for the current year's exact requirements and dates.

A monthly stipend, accommodation, a mandatory one-year Turkish language course, health insurance, and a flight ticket, on top of placement at a Turkish university. The scholarship programme's own category list also includes an adaptation programme and an alumni network/academy — the university-placement page describes this as ensuring both financial support and a confirmed university place.

Open to international (non-Turkish) applicants for bachelor's-level study at Turkish universities, across a wide range of subjects including engineering. Described by the programme itself as competitive and merit-based, evaluated primarily on academic record.

All undergraduate scholars complete a mandatory one-year Turkish-language course (TÖMER) before starting their degree, regardless of the teaching language of the eventual programme — this applies even for placement at English-medium universities such as METU, Bilkent or ITU. Recipients do not choose their own university or programme freely; placement is part of the selection process. This project has not independently verified whether tuition itself is separately waived at the placement university (distinct from the listed stipend/accommodation/insurance/flight benefits above) — the archived official page does not state this directly, so it is not claimed here.

Airfare, Korean-language training costs, tuition at the placement university, and monthly study allowances, running for the combined length of the Korean-language training plus an associate degree (2-3 years) or bachelor's degree (4-6 years).

Both the applicant and both parents must hold non-Korean citizenship; applicants must be under 25 years old as of the applicable year, be a high-school graduate (or an associate-degree graduate, for bachelor's applicants), and hold a cumulative GPA of 80% or higher in their most recent education. Selection runs through an Embassy Track (apply via a Korean embassy or consulate in the applicant's home country) or a University Track (apply directly to one of over 80 GKS-participating universities).

KAIST participates in GKS only as a graduate (master's/doctoral) host university on the page this project archived — the undergraduate-track host lists (the Embassy Track's Type A/B universities, and the University Track's University-Industry-Cooperation bachelor's list) do not include KAIST. An undergraduate GKS scholar would therefore be placed at a different GKS-participating university (the undergraduate list includes Seoul National University, Yonsei, Korea University, POSTECH, UNIST, Ewha Womans, Sungkyunkwan and dozens of others), not necessarily KAIST itself. About 500 undergraduate/associate-degree places are offered annually across 80+ universities; the participating-university list and quotas are reissued every year, so applicants should check studyinkorea.go.kr for the current cycle before applying.

The Ministry of Education pays up to NTD 40,000 per semester toward tuition and miscellaneous expenses, plus a monthly living allowance of NTD 15,000 or NTD 20,000, for up to 4 years at bachelor's level.

Open to foreign nationals with at least a secondary-school graduation diploma, an excellent academic record, and good character. Residents of Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao are excluded, as are ROC nationals, overseas Chinese students, and anyone already holding student status in Taiwan or already having held a Taiwan Scholarship for 5 years total. Applications go through the applicant's local Taiwan Representative Office (embassy-equivalent), and separately to the university itself for admission.

The NTD 40,000/semester tuition contribution is a capped amount, not a guaranteed full waiver — this project could not verify NTU Taiwan's own published international tuition to check whether it exceeds that cap (NTU's tuition fields in this dataset are currently unverified/null), so a recipient placed at a university whose tuition is higher than the capped amount would owe the difference themselves. The scholarship is administered jointly by Taiwan's Ministry of Education and Ministry of Foreign Affairs; recipients must still gain admission to their chosen university independently of the scholarship award.

Full tuition-fee exemption, plus a monthly stipend of HUF 43,700 (roughly EUR 110) toward living expenses for 12 months a year until completion, plus either a free dormitory place or a HUF 40,000/month (roughly EUR 100) accommodation contribution, plus medical insurance including a supplementary policy of up to HUF 65,000/year. The official page itself cautions that the accommodation contribution 'would not cover the full amount of rental costs' in bigger cities, so these are contributions to living costs rather than a guarantee of covering every expense.

Applicants must be citizens of one of Hungary's roughly 90-100 partner countries — the scholarship runs on bilateral education-cooperation agreements between Hungary and each sending country, and a country with no such agreement is not eligible at all. In practice, applicants apply through and are nominated by their home country's own responsible authority (their 'Sending Partner', typically a ministry of education, national scholarship board, or the Hungarian embassy), not directly to a Hungarian university. Around 900 full degree programmes are on offer, many taught in English, across all higher-education fields and degree levels including bachelor's.

A compulsory, host-institution-taught 'Hungarian as a foreign language and culture' course is required of every bachelor's, master's and one-tier-master's Stipendium Hungaricum holder who started from fall 2020 onward, offered free of charge alongside the (usually English-taught) degree itself, per the programme's own Apply page (stipendiumhungaricum.hu/apply/) — this project viewed that page but could not archive its JavaScript-rendered content through the standard snapshot tool, so it is recorded here as unverified context rather than a quoted, verified claim. Eligibility also depends on which study fields one's own country's bilateral agreement makes available in a given year, not on a fixed universal list.

A Kazakhstani state-budget-financed scholarship programme, distinct from the outbound 'Bolashak' scholarship, that places foreign nationals (including ethnic Kazakhs who hold no Kazakhstani citizenship) at a Kazakhstani university. The governing regulation defines what the programme actually pays for narrowly: the 'scholarship' itself is a stipend that partially covers food, accommodation and study materials. Neither this regulation nor the operator's own scholarship-programme page states, in the text this project could access, whether tuition is paid separately from that stipend — treat this as a state-funded university placement with a partial living stipend, not a confirmed full-tuition scholarship, and confirm the tuition question directly with the Operator or the receiving university before relying on it.

Open to foreign nationals generally (including ethnic Kazakhs who are not Kazakhstani citizens), applying for a first bachelor's degree — the applicant must not already have completed that education level. Applicants need an identity document (a refugee certificate is accepted), a notarised translation of their secondary-school-leaving document showing a grade of at least 'good', a motivational essay, one reference letter, and a medical/HIV clearance certificate. Unlike the master's and PhD tracks under the same programme, bachelor's applicants do not need a foreign-language proficiency certificate. In the 2026 application round, 490 of the programme's 550 places nationally were allocated to bachelor's degree study, alongside 50 for master's and 10 for PhD, administered by JSC 'Center for International Programs' with applications filed at studyin.kz/admission.

This is a separate, inbound programme from the well-known outbound 'Bolashak' scholarship (which funds Kazakhstani citizens to study abroad and is closed to foreigners) — both happen to be administered by the same body, JSC 'Center for International Programs', which causes some secondary sources to conflate the two. All applicants, including bachelor's candidates, must also pass an online 'adaptive potential' test (80 questions, 120 minutes) and an online interview as part of selection, per the same official regulation (adilet.zan.kz/eng/docs/V1800017520, paragraphs 14-16) — a screening test, not a subject-matter entrance exam. The list of which Kazakhstani universities and fields of study are actually available is only published on the studyin.kz application portal during the live application window (30 March-31 May), so this project could not confirm whether Nazarbayev University specifically participates in a given year.

Saudi public universities award three tiers of government scholarship at their own discretion: 'free' scholarships (full benefits), 'partial' scholarships (a subset of benefits, e.g. a seat only, or a seat plus housing), and paid grants. The Ministry's page itemises a fuller benefits list — healthcare for the student and any dependents brought to reside with them, a financial reward on arrival, housing, shared access to the advantages other students at the institution get, and annual travel tickets — explicitly under the heading 'Advantages of external scholarships' (i.e. the from-abroad route), not the internal/resident route this entry covers. This project could not confirm from the official page whether Internal-track (resident) recipients get that same itemised benefits list or only the tuition waiver implied by 'full benefits' — confirm directly with the awarding university.

The Ministry of Education distinguishes two non-Saudi scholarship routes: 'Internal scholarships for non-Saudi students residing in the Kingdom with a legal residency' and 'External scholarships for non-Saudi students from outside the Kingdom' — this entry covers the Internal (resident) route, which King Abdulaziz University (KAU) is recorded in this dataset for. For the Internal route specifically, each university's council sets its own admission rules for 'scholarship students from within', but the Ministry's own baseline requires the applicant to be a regular resident of the Kingdom and to have the approval of whoever holds their residency sponsorship. Across both routes: undergraduate applicants must be 17-25 years old, meet the same admission requirements Saudi nationals face, pass a medical exam and security clearance, not already hold another scholarship from a Saudi institution, and — for some nationalities — have their home government's approval to study in the Kingdom. Health and medical specialties are excluded from this general admission route.

This is a Ministry-of-Education-wide policy framework covering all 27 Saudi public universities, not a KAU-specific guarantee — KAU's own published admission and scholarship terms should still be checked directly at the university level for the resident track this dataset's owner is specifically interested in. The Ministry page states applicants apply either directly through the target university's own website, through the Saudi Cultural Attaché in their country, or through the Saudi Embassy if there is no Attaché — an odd mix for an 'internal'/resident applicant already living in the Kingdom, which this project flags rather than resolves.

Full exemption from tuition fees (including acceptance, examination, registration and orientation fees) for the duration of the programme, plus a return economy-class air ticket to and from Brunei, a monthly personal allowance of BND $500, a monthly meals allowance of BND $150, an annual book allowance of BND $600, accommodation at the university/polytechnic's residential college, a baggage-shipment allowance on completion, and comprehensive insurance for the whole scholarship period. Covers study at Diploma, Undergraduate Degree or Postgraduate Master's Degree level.

Open to international applicants studying in Brunei for the first time, applying to Diploma, Undergraduate Degree or Postgraduate Master's Degree programmes at one of five Brunei institutions: Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali, Universiti Teknologi Brunei, Kolej Universiti Perguruan Ugama Seri Begawan, or Politeknik Brunei. Undergraduate/Diploma applicants must not exceed age 25 as of 1 July of the year the programme starts, and must be proficient in English (Credit 6 at GCE 'O' Level, Grade 'C' in IGCSE English as a second language, IELTS 6.0, or TOEFL 550). Bruneians, Brunei Permanent Residents, and international students already studying or who have previously studied at a Brunei tertiary institution are explicitly excluded from this scholarship.

Course/programme pages for eligible degrees sit on each institution's own site (UBD, UNISSA, UTB, KUPU SB, PB) — this project verified only the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' own scholarship terms page, which is the scheme's official host. No mandatory foreign-language preparation year is disclosed or funded here — English proficiency is an entry bar, not something the scholarship pays for a prep year to reach, unlike MEXT or Türkiye Bursları. An applicant may be required to sit a written English/Malay/Arabic proficiency exam and/or attend an interview as part of selection. Recipients may not hold another scholarship concurrently, may not bring family members at the scholarship's expense, and must leave Brunei immediately upon completion of the programme.

Tuition fees, a monthly living allowance, an arrival allowance, a book/research allowance, publication assistance, transportation to Indonesia and back on graduation, and monthly health insurance. Before starting degree study — including at bachelor's level — awardees must complete up to one year of Indonesian-language (BIPA) preparation, which the scholarship funds as part of the award and which recipients must pass before their academic classes begin; those academic classes are then conducted in Indonesian, not English.

Open to prospective international students from developing countries who hold a High School diploma (a bachelor's-degree holder is not eligible to apply at the bachelor's level) and have not exceeded the programme's age ceiling (21 years old, as of 31 December for the 2026 cycle). Applicants generally need an English-proficiency test score (TOEFL ITP 477 / TOEFL iBT 53 / IELTS 5.5 / TOEIC 510 or equivalent), waived for nationals of English-speaking countries or those already enrolled in an English-medium programme, plus a recommendation letter from the Indonesian Embassy or Consulate in their country of origin, an academic recommendation letter, legalised academic transcripts, and a passport valid well beyond the application year. Selection includes administrative and academic review, online interviews and psychological tests run by the receiving university. Recipients are placed at one of 47 partner Indonesian universities; the applicant does not freely choose which one.

The official site (knb.kemdiktisaintek.go.id) is a JavaScript single-page application; this project captured it with a browser and archived the rendered text, including two FAQ-accordion answers ('What does the KNB Scholarship cover?' and 'Will I study in an international class with English as the medium of instruction?') that are part of the same page but sit behind a click. Most detailed logistics (per-university placement, exact stipend amounts) live in a 2026 Applicant Guide PDF linked from the site, which this project did not archive because it would not render as text. IMPORTANT: unlike MEXT or Türkiye Bursları, KNB's own FAQ states bachelor's classes are 'conducted in Indonesian at regular classes' after the funded one-year BIPA (Bahasa Indonesia) preparation course — this is the same disclosed-and-funded mandatory-language-year pattern as those two schemes, recorded here per this project's stated rule for that pattern, but applicants who assumed an English-medium degree should read this carefully. The application deadline shown on the archived page (31 March 2026) belongs to the KNB Scholarship 2026 cycle; check the official site for the current cycle's dates before applying.

Chilean host universities (Universidad de Tarapacá in Arica, and Universidad de Magallanes in Punta Arenas) fund enrolment and tuition for the regular study plan. AGCID, Chile's International Cooperation Agency, separately funds a monthly living-cost stipend for the academic year, interurban bus fares between the student's home city/country and the Chilean city of study at the start and end of each academic year, return travel home on the same terms, and a one-off annual contribution toward study materials.

Open only to recent secondary-school graduates who are nationals of Argentina, Bolivia or Peru, applying for undergraduate (professional-degree-track) study at one of two Chilean host universities: Universidad de Tarapacá (Arica campus — open to Bolivian and Peruvian nationals since 2011) or Universidad de Magallanes (Punta Arenas campus — open since 2018 specifically to Argentine nationals from that country's southern/Patagonian zone). Each host university publishes its own annual call, typically between September and December, stating the specific majors on offer, required documents, deadlines and application procedure. Applications are not made directly to AGCID — they go through the applicant's national 'Punto Focal' (national contact point) or the relevant Chilean embassy/consulate.

Narrower in scope than most entries in this dataset: this is Chile's Cross-Border Integration Scholarship (Programa de Becas de Integración Transfronteriza), open only to recent secondary-school graduates from Argentina, Bolivia and Peru — not a broad international scholarship. It is the only genuinely inbound, undergraduate, government-coordinated scholarship this project could confirm on Chile's official development-cooperation site (agcid.gob.cl); AGCID's other listed programmes on the same page (Becas República de Chile, Alianza del Pacífico, Nelson Mandela, Manuela Sáenz) are either postgraduate-only (Magíster) or short-term academic-mobility/exchange programmes (a semester or less, while the student stays enrolled at their home university), not full bachelor's degrees, and were excluded on that basis. The archived page is in Spanish and did not state any language-of-instruction requirement or language-preparation year; Argentina, Bolivia and Peru are all Spanish-speaking countries, so this is not expected to be a 'new language' barrier for eligible applicants. The archived snapshot's HTML-entity artifacts (e.g. 'ó' for 'ó') are preserved verbatim in the quotes above because this project's fetch tool does not decode Spanish accented-letter entities — the underlying Spanish text is otherwise unaltered. Specific majors, current-cycle deadlines and per-country quotas are published separately by each host university every September-December, not on this AGCID overview page.

A one-off EUR 5,000 award paid in the first year of study. Explicitly not a full-tuition scholarship — it reduces, but does not remove, the international tuition an applicant still has to fund.

Open to non-EEA nationals applying for a full-time bachelor's (or master's) programme at a participating Dutch institution, who do not already hold a degree from a Dutch institution. Each participating university sets its own additional requirements and deadline.

Financed by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science together with the participating institutions, and paid for the first year only — a partial offset against tuition, not a route to free study. IMPORTANT: the national scheme permits bachelor's OR master's, but each participating university decides which of its own programmes to open the award to, and several restrict it to master's. University of Twente — the one participating university in this dataset — states on its own NL Scholarship page that it is "for excellent students from non-EU/EEA countries, applying for a Master's programme at the University of Twente", so a Twente bachelor's applicant CANNOT use this award. Check the specific institution's own page for the level it admits before relying on this scholarship; the participating-university list also changes every year.

The official pages do NOT publish the eligible-country list themselves — they defer to the Belt and Road Portal — so confirm your own nationality is on that list before relying on this. Applies only at publicly-funded Hong Kong institutions (HKUST, in this dataset, is one). There is no separate application form: candidates are considered through the institution they are admitted to, so enquire with the university directly.
