Scholarships
University Admissions Scholarship for IB Diploma
45 points: full tuition plus a HK$60,000 annual living allowance, renewable for the normative duration of study. 44 points: full tuition p.a., renewable. 43 points: half tuition p.a., renewable. 40-42 points: half tuition, one-off payment.
Eligibility: Automatic for all IB Diploma applicants to HKUST undergraduate programmes, tiered by total IB score including Extended Essay/Theory of Knowledge points, for 2026/27 intake: 45 points, 44 points, 43 points, and 40-42 points are each a separate tier (see coverage). No separate application is required; all IB applicants are automatically considered based on verified grades. A top-up scholarship may additionally be offered by the School/Programme Office, capped at full tuition fee plus HK$60,000 allowance per year.
HKUST publishes equivalent tiered University Admissions Scholarships for other qualification types (GCE A-Level/International A-Level, SAT/Advanced Placement, and other international qualifications) with their own grade thresholds and payouts, plus a separate Global Learners Scholarship and application-based non-academic awards — see HKUST's Academic Admissions Scholarships pages.

- IELTS Academic — 6 overallIELTS Academic for UKVI is also accepted.
- TOEFL iBT — 80 overallApplies to tests taken prior to 21 January 2026 (Total Score, one sitting). From 21 January 2026 onwards the required Total Score is 4.5 on TOEFL’s redesigned scale. A paper-delivered TOEFL requires a Combined Score of 60.

Admissions tests
- SAT requiredAmerican-patterned route: SAT total score of 1,190 or above, combined with AP scores of 3 or above in two subjects (or AP 4+ in five subjects instead). Applicants only need to satisfy ONE of the SAT/ACT+AP, GCEAL, or IB Diploma routes -- not all three.
- ACT requiredAlternative to SAT within the American-patterned route: ACT composite score of 24 or above in one sitting, including the Science section, combined with the same AP requirement as the SAT route.
- GCEAL requiredBritish-patterned route: passes in at least three Advanced Level (AL) subjects in the GCEAL/International AL examinations (or a BTEC National Level 3 Extended Diploma) satisfies the General Admissions Requirement on its own.
- IB Diploma requiredHolding the IB Diploma alone satisfies HKUST's General Admissions Requirement.
