Student health insurance

What each country actually requires

“You need health insurance” turns out to mean three different things depending where you're headed: the UK charges a flat government fee instead of asking you to buy anything, Australia requires you to buy a specific named policy from an approved insurer, and Spain requires a private policy that meets a stated minimum coverage total. None of those are the same claim, so none of them are shown here as if they were.

Verified for 4 countries so far. Most countries do require proof of health cover for a student visa even where it isn't listed here yet — that's a gap in what we've checked, not evidence it isn't required. Always confirm with the immigration authority for your specific country before you travel.

What this page is not

Not medical or insurance advice, and not a comparison of which policy is “best”. It states what the immigration authority itself requires before it will grant a visa — what cover is actually right for you is a separate question worth answering with an insurer directly. For the money you must prove you have (a related but different requirement), see student finance.
